Mrs. Jenny Nichols
5th and 6th Grade Orchestra
Welcome to Orchestra!
Students are given a choice of music class when they get to fifth grade. Orchestra is one of their choices. In this class, the students may choose to learn the violin, viola, cello or bass. Sixth Grade Orchestra is a second year experience for students who already have had one year of experience on their instrument. Both grades perform in two school concerts, one in November and one in April. The Sixth Grade Orchestra also performs in the annual Sixth Grade Strings Festival held in late January or early February each year.
Mrs. Nichols has taught orchestra and general music with the Gilbert Public School District for 32 years. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education and Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Mrs. Nichols is one of 20 Nationally Board Certified Music Educators in the State of Arizona. She has been the Elementary Music Department Chair for nineteen years. Mrs. Nichols has a passion for teaching teachers and regularly mentors pre-service teachers and teachers new to Gilbert. Mrs. Nichols lives in Mesa with her husband Rob who teaches orchestra at Dobson High School and is the conductor of the Scottsdale Philharmonic Orchestra.
