The Readers of Today are the Leaders of Tomorrow!

At Gilbert Elementary, the library promotes this philosophy and believes that those who read, succeed...

Our library provides access to a wide range of beautiful books on most subject areas and reading levels. Library lessons support Common Core ELA Standards and are integrated with technology to engage our students. Our goal is to connect kids with books and foster a love of reading.  We offer a variety of programs to support our goals.

We are an Accelerated Reader school!  What does this mean for our library?  That means that our books are coded according to the A.R. levels. This makes it easy for our students to choose books appropriate for the reading level(s). Our library is organized into 4 sections: Easy Fiction, Fiction, Nonfiction and Paperbacks.  The majority of our books are A.R. books.

Twice a year, our library is transformed into a miniature bookstore. Having a book fair provides access to quality literature and creates excitement for reading. Book fairs also make it possible for us to earn monies to purchase new books for the library. It's a win-win for our students!

Thank you to all of our families who generously support our book fairs!

Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading program for the 5th and 6th grade students designed to promote reading through a team competition. Students read a total of 12 books and compete against other students during three battles throughout the year. Teams earn points at each battle and the team with the highest cumulative points will represent Gilbert Elementary at the District competition.

Read Across America is a national program designed to promote a love of reading and books! It is held every year during the first week of March in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2nd. During our week-long celebration, students will participate in reading contests, wear wacky clothes on Wacky Wednesday and their favorite hat in honor of the cat! Striped Hats are on sale in the library for purchase during this week!
